Indeed, with the advent of modern ways to converge and communicate, the world is getting smaller and global business has been, still is, and always will be poised to be the wave of the future. Changes, too, are happening at fast paces. In today’s global village, it is no longer just how big you are but how well and fast you can adapt to changes, innovation, and technology. This limitlessness of opportunities in the international scene proves true for real estate developers and professionals. I hope this website will become an important resource for the people of Bangladesh, All members of the Association, engaged in the various aspects of the real estate industry or are current or future property owners.
Rapid urbanization is a growing challenge for many developing nations, driven by population expansion and inadequate development planning. As rural livelihoods decline, migration toward major cities increases. Bangladesh, one of the least developed countries, continues to struggle to meet essential needs—especially the constitutional right to shelter.
Given the scale of the housing demand, it is impossible for the Government alone to meet the nation’s needs. This reality has made the role of private real estate developers critical. The real estate industry in Bangladesh began its journey in Dhaka in the late 1970s with a few pioneering companies, including Eastern Housing and Property Development. Today, the sector has transformed into one of the country’s most dynamic industries, contributing nearly 15% to the national GDP.
The Real Estate & Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB) is the premier national organization representing private real estate developers across the country. As Bangladesh continues to urbanize rapidly, the demand for planned housing has increased dramatically. With limited government capacity to meet this need alone, the private sector has become a vital contributor to national housing development.
Founded in 1991 with 11 pioneering companies, REHAB was established to address industry-wide challenges, ensure responsible development, and protect the interests of developers. Today, REHAB proudly represents 894 member companies and is an A-Class member of the FBCCI.
As the number of real estate companies grew, various sectoral challenges emerged, requiring coordinated and professional attention. To resolve these issues and safeguard the interests of private developers, the Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB) was established in 1991 with only 11 founding members. Its core objective has always been to foster sustainable real estate development in the private sector.
Today, REHAB stands as the only recognized national organization representing real estate developers in Bangladesh. The majority of the companies operating in the sector are its members. REHAB is also a prestigious top-tier member of the FBCCI. In the past two years alone, REHAB’s membership has more than doubled, and it now proudly represents 894 companies from across the country.
REHAB has played an active role in policy advocacy. Through its persuasion, the Government has included REHAB representatives in the Nagar Unnayan Committee, allowing the association to contribute directly to policy formulation for the sector. Recently, RAJUK has appointed REHAB to the Monitoring Cell for Illegal Construction in Dhaka, enabling the association to provide crucial oversight and protect member developers from arbitrary administrative actions.
REHAB believes that with continued government support and constructive collaboration, the real estate sector will achieve sustainable and responsible growth in the coming years.
Creating an environment for sustainable growth in real estate business in Bangladesh is based on customer satisfaction, technological adaptability, environmental sensitivity, social awareness, and ethical business practices, for achieving a prosperous Bangladesh.
REHAB is the only trade organization who work for the real estate developers. All major institutionalized developers are members of this organization. REHAB is the “A Class” member of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI). In the recent years, REHAB has played a very significant role in nation building through real estate development by the members of REHAB, contributing revenue to the Government exchequer in terms of Registration Cost, Income Tax and Utility Service Charges, and much more.
To promote and protect the collective rights and interests of its members and assist them to fulfill their role as responsible real estate developers, REHAB thus enable them to operate efficiently, professionally, ethically, and profitably.
REHAB aims to fulfill its goals and bring a positive change in the real estate scenario of Bangladesh. REHAB is working:
Every year, REHAB organizes its flagship event — the REHAB Housing Fair — both at home and abroad. This grand fair brings together member companies, related institutions, and valued clients under one platform.
Beyond business, REHAB remains deeply committed to corporate social responsibility (CSR). During natural disasters and national emergencies, REHAB extends support to affected communities. Its Customer Service and Mediation Standing Committee provides essential services to clients, promoting transparency and trust.
REHAB also works closely with the Government in drafting national policies, laws, and regulations related to the real estate sector. It regularly hosts seminars, talk shows, and discussions with professionals to improve and modernize the industry.
To inspire the younger generation, REHAB organizes REHAB Week, which includes extempore speech and art competitions for students. REHAB also honors leading professionals in the sector by awarding the prestigious Gold Medal for Outstanding Contribution.
Moreover, REHAB arranges annual blood and eye donation drives, environmental awareness rallies, and other social campaigns to promote a healthier and more sustainable urban lifestyle.
The association publishes a quarterly Newsletter for its members, showcasing important activities and developments. It also produces Shapnil Abashon, a widely circulated magazine for the general public, featuring expert opinions, industry insights, and real estate trends.
